Due to Corona virus we came to realise the importance of saving earth, saving natural resources and healing our environment. Conventional farming use allot of Chemicals and pesticides for producing vegetables. Conserving soil and it's natural minerals was my parents key focus for growing plants in our farm which is situated in Citrus Valley, Hoshiarpur.
Together they explored using unconventional waste decomposer technique as a fertiliser for nurturing the organic seeds of Garlic, Radish, Spinach, Mustard greens (Sarson ka Saag), Bathua (Pigweed), Tangerine, Figs and many more.
Later used the same technique in cultivating Organic Oyster Mushroom without any use of chemical at all.
Astonishingly the results have been phenomenal and it definitely taste far better then similar non organic vegetables available in the market. Some of our key produce has been:
Oyster mushroom is the rich source of protein, vitamins, minerals, fibre and other antioxidants like selenium protect body cells from damage that might lead to chronic diseases and help to strengthen the immune system. Oyster mushroom is low in calories, fat free Cholesterol free, Gluten free and very low in sodium. (Source Wikipedia)
Some of best dishes which we have enjoyed so far have been Oyster Mushroom Pasta, Oyster Mushroom and Broccoli Pizza, Mushroom Pickle, Mushroom Soup, Mushroom bread. It is packed with delicious mushroom flavour and meaty in texture.
Mustard Green (Sarson Ka Saag) is a winter vegetable and a popularly prepared 'Punjabi delicacy'. Our Mustard Greens leaves are more leafier, slightly softer in texture and less bitter than regular saag. Sarson ka saag is a hearty dish having lots of phenols and flavonoids. It is loaded with dietary fibre, protein, vitamin K, manganese, calcium, vitamin B6, vitamin C and many more nutrients. Being Organic it is completely safe to eat, chemical free and blessing for health if combined with Bathua.
Bathua also known as pigweed, is a very nutritious winter vegetable that has multiple health benefits. Appears to be similar to that of spinach and may be cooked in a similar manner. Whole Bathua leaves may be steamed and combined in dough, blended in curries etc. Bathua is a powerhouse of vitamins A, C and B along with being rich in essential minerals and antioxidants. It is a good source of amino acids, iron, potassium, phosphorus and calcium, making it very healthy to consume. This is a best superfood in winter and works best as a body warmer in Winter.
